There has been much talk lately about pertussis (whopping cough) outbreaks given the tens of thousands of cases in recent years. Although we are told vaccines don’t cause any of the neurological complications many parents report after vaccines and that the pertussis outbreaks are due low rates of vaccination, is that really the case? In fact, federal health officials and public officials in California and elsewhere have stated publicly that the pertussis outbreaks are not due to falling vaccination rates but rather due to waning immunity (vaccine failure) and the cyclicality of the disease.1 But that has not stopped most corporate media outlets from blaming the outbreaks on those who have doubts about the risk/reward profile of pertussis vaccines.
