The only risk I was informed of during this visit was that I was killing other’s children at Walmart and that there are a certain number of people who die every year from not being vaccinated. I also did not sign the form because I felt the environment was hostile and that I was being bullied into signing something I did not fully understand. Dr. Miller asked me why I was refusing to sign the waiver and I told him I was not comfortable doing that. Dr. Miller asked me if I was going to sue him, I told him no. He said if I would not sign the form he needed to get a witness to me refusing. I told him that was fine. Dr. Miller came back to the room with a nurse who signed the form as a witness. Dr. Miller asked her if she could do a swab on Xavier to test him for pertussis.
The Nurse said yes she could but that she had an observer with her today and needed to get him. The nurse left the exam room. Dr. Miller told me there was a way for me to see another doctor other than himself because he could see I was angry with him and would always be angry if I had to deal with him. Dr. Miller said the test they were going to do on Xavier would take around five days to get results so he would be prescribing medicine to treat it.
The nurse and observer came back in the exam room. The nurse put on a gown and gloves and asked me some questions. I asked her if she was another doctor and she told me she was a nurse. I asked her where I should go in the building if I felt a doctor was inappropriate. She said that I could talk to her and asked me what happened. I explained to her what had taken place and she asked me to fill out a complaint form. I was very upset and was not comfortable doing that in the office at that moment I really wanted to leave and remove myself from the environment. The nurse asked me how I had planned to get the prescription from the pharmacy and I asked if it was okay to use my cellphone to call my fiancé to ask if he could pick it up a little later. She said that was fine and she would prefer it just in case Xavier was contagious so he would not be sitting in the pharmacy waiting room.
I called my fiancé while the nurse and observer did the swab test on Xavier. I was upset and he said he was coming over to the hospital but I told him I was leaving as soon as I could. Dr. Miller opened the exam room and asked if everything was okay and reminded me to get the medicine from the pharmacy. I made an okay sign with my hand and asked the nurse if I was free to leave, she said yes and we left. I went home shortly after which my fiancé brought Xavier’s medicine.
My fiancé asked me what happened and after we talked about it he encouraged me to file a complaint. I hesitated in the doctor’s office and even now because of retaliation and abuse I felt from Dr. Miller because of my parental choices. I know there are other parents that make the same choices as me for many reasons and I hope that they are never treated in this manner. Thank you for your time.

Nice work mom! I think it is our right to do as we like…and it is our responsibility to know what they are vaccinating our children against, so that if it is contagious we know the warning signs…we don’t need doctor’s offices to support the cures or the diagnosis of all childhood diseases. We also must learn that there are remedies that support health that do not come from the Dr office. In addition my understanding of pertusis is that after a week any antibiotics are virtually useless for helping the child heal and that the cough may not be contagious anymore…if anyone has any other information to counter this, please share with me…let’s inform ourselves and be thinkers about our health and take it back!

Our pediatrician refuses to see us once we refuse a vaccine and I can’t find a list of pediatricians that accept non-vax parents. By the way, doctors receive awards, maybe even financial compensation, for most vaccines provided to patients.
